| Minimize
acne scars!
Acne breakouts, even if it lasts only during adolescence
can leave life-long scaring. Acne scars typically look like
"ice pick" pit scars or crater-like scars. Vigilant
treatment of acne may help minimize scarring, but it does
not always guarantee it.
Lite Laser Skin Resurfacing is a new minimally invasive
procedure that utilizes advanced laser technology (long-pulsed
erbium laser) to reduce wrinkles, clear pigmented and elevated
skin lesions and evidence of sun damage. Recent studies
have shown that the Erbium laser stimulates the production
of collagen, creating a tightening and smoothing of the
skin.
How does it work?
The low-powered, long-pulse laser
energy beam penetrates through the acne scar area and helps
reduce scarring by stimulating the collagen from the inside.
Additionally, the laser is then increased in power, enabling
the physician to sculpture over and reduce the acne scars
from the outside.
Common Questions:
Can
the procedure do anything else for me?
Many patients have raised lesions on their
face such as warts or moles. The same laser can be used
to easily treat and remove these lesions.
Does the procedure
hurt?
Usually not, although sometimes patients
may experience minor discomfort similar to a stinging effect.
However, most patients experience no pain.
How long does
the procedure take?
Application of the laser energy takes approximately
30 minutes.
What will
I look like after the treatment?
Your face will have a redness and swelling
as if you had experienced a sunburn. This generally disappears
within 48 hours. Your skin will peel in 3-4 days leaving
you with baby soft skin. Complete healing is achieved in
approximately 7-10 days.
Are
there any side effects or complications of the laser facial?
You should experience no complications from
this treatment. In rare cases, transient skin discoloration
may occur which is easily treated with topical creams. This
is in contrast to the traditional CO2 laser which is more
invasive and requires a 4-8 week recovery and many lead
to prolonged redness and skin discoloration. If you are
prone to cold sores, you will be prescribed medication to
prevent an outbreak.
